  • Rendering Hair Shadow on a different layer?

    Hi!

Problem is simple and proving to be difficult for me to solve!

I have this character with hair i'm working on at the moment. I would like to render the hair shadow on the character seperatly to have more control when compositing it later.

I've been trying with VrayMtl Wrapper using it's matte option but i'm getting no results out of it. Does anyone know what workflow for this kind of procedure would be?

    Thanks in advance!

You can maybe make the hair invisible to the camera and then use the shadow render element?

i've thought about that but the only options i have under "renderstats" of my pfxhair its "recieve shadows" "visible in reflections" and "visible in refractions" :/

You can assign a V-Ray object properties node to the hair and turn off the primary visibility from there.

Thanks for the quick answer!! Just tried it but the only options i have on my hair are "skip rendering" "user atributes" and "object ID"

Select your hair system, then go to Create > V-Ray > Object properties > Apply single object properties to selection. Then select the VRayObjectProperties tab in the Attribute Editor, scroll down to Visibility Options and turn off Primary visibility.

              SOLVED!

Actually thinking about what you sayd, i went to vray materials and used the render stats one and pluged my hair shader in and turned off visibility. then on the mesh i unchecked cast shadows and It worked!! i got a clean shadow pass. I'm going to check out your solution to see at which point it's faster and easier!!

Thanks for the efficient and quick replys!
