  • Fading out toon lines (VRayToon)

    Hi,

I want basically to fade out smoothly toon lines on some part of a mesh.
I've run some tests with a simple sphere and cube :

    - I've applied a planar x uv on both geometries.
    - I've linked a ramp (smooth gradient between pure black and pure white) to the Opacity Map input of the VRayToon node.

It didn't work : Lines still appear on parts of the objects that are suposed to be pure black with the ramp, regarding to the camera point of view.
(When I move the camera, sometimes it seems to work fine and other time not)

I've made some other tests with the Line Width input, and with a black and white 8bit bitmap map instead of the ramp : sames results.

Do you have ideas to achieve this with VRay ? is VRayToon able to do this ?

    Thanks.

    Regards,
    L.R.

    Hello,

Can you post your scene, because according to our tests, putting ramp for opacity map works as expected?
Which version of V-Ray do you use?

I am also curious about this. I'm currently trying to control the lines created on my character model. Is there a way to paint out areas of the model you don't want lines to appear? Or a way to control the line width based on the UV of the character? I tried various ways to map textures to the line width channel but have had no success.

You can map the toon thickness with another texture, thus making it 0px thick at some places and >0 in other. Will that work?
