  • Motion Blur moving displacement maps

I have a still object and camera. The object has a displacement map that is spinning because I keyframed it's "Translate Frame" attribute on its place2dTexture node. For the life of me I can Not get the moving displacement map to show any motion blur.

You can animate only the displacement amount. Animating the displacement in any other way will change the topology and is far from trivial to support it correctly. We may work on this in feature, but for now assume that it's not possible.

So it is possible in V-Ray for Max but not Maya Then. Because this video shows it works in Max:

You mean it's possible in 3ds Max, since it seems this is 3ds Max displacement. They are probably using fixed displacement toplogy and not animated object. I'm not that familiar with Max. But this is at least the easiest method to achieve proper mb. It may be possible to do something similar in Maya also using some of the deformers.

Okay, it's six years later. How about getting motion blur out of animating displacement maps?
As a result of the displacement, the topology is moving.
Can you support how far it's being moved, relative or absolute, frame-to-frame?
I see needing to keep an array of P before and after the current rendering frame (depending on the setting other variables allowed, of course).
