  • How does one create foam in an ocean scene?

I have the demo version, so not a lot of foam, just a few "random foams" in the ocean scene... Does it have to do with the Velocity setting or velocity coherence? I don't really see an option in the parameters (and obviously don't understand the process)...

    Thanks.

the ocean texture that you are using is just a displacement, it has no foam in the official version (in the nightlies it has, but you can't get access using the demo).
with the demo it's possible to use gradient ramp set in vertical direction, to select the highest waves and use the output of the gradient ramp as blend mask for a blend material. this was discussed in other threads, the result is not bad, but the waves are foamed equally in the frond and back side.
in the nightly builds there is a foam texture that makes all this automatically, and beside the asymmetrical peak mask (only the back side is white), it has patterns ans underwater foam tint)
in two minutes you can get result like this:

      Thanks for the followup.

I've installed the nightly and have updated the dongle (30-day eval). I now see that there's PhoenixFDFoamTex, but if I create a secondary VRaydisplacementMod, in the stack, the water then becomes completely calm (cancels out FDOceanTex. What am I doing wrong?

Also, I couldn't view your example. Apparently I don't have enough permissions. Who can I contact?

the foam texture must be used in the shading, not as displacement source.
in the attachment you will find a scene that demonstrates how to use the foam texture. it is based on phoenix displacement, but you can replace it with vray displacement, just apply the material on your displaced plane
