  • Rendering an Animated Movie

    Hello all...
I wrote a short screenplay for an animated movie.
Short story being, I hired someone in another state (via freelance website) to model and animate the movie.
He has everything complete but can not render the movie because it kills his computer.

I have the hardware to render the movie, but I don't know what to do to do it.
I know I will need Maya 2015 and he is using vRay. So, do I buy a license per-machine I have for Maya and vRay?
What do I have to do to make all my computers render the movie?

I have a three white box custom dual quad-core Xenons with 96GB RAM, a Dell T7400 w/ dual quad-core Xeons and 32GB RAM, two HP ML350 G6's with dual quad-core Xeons and 32GB RAM each.
That's a total of 6 servers with dual quad-core Xeons. I am looking to possibly purchase some "blade?" servers for my basement to decrease render times. All my computers are connected via a 48 port Cisco 3750.

Sorry for sounding like a dummy, I really don't know what I am talking about here.

Rendering animated films is a complex task While you may have some hardware you need a lot of set up to get it working. Vray works through maya batch so you will need one user license and as many render licenses as you have render machines. Then you will need render manager like backburner to submit jobs and have it manage the renders.

      Thank you Morbid Angel.

      Doesn't Maya come with backburner?
How do I get the render licenses?

yes maya comes with backburner, since version 2013 I believe.

For render licenses (vray side) you need to contact vray re-seller, you can find them on chaos website, there is also a section there describing how the licensing works.
