  • Considering buying Phoenix FD

I'm looking for a tool to simulate boats in the ocean. I can see alot of examples of Phoenix doing exactly that with with v 2.2 in Max but not a lot of documentation suggesting that the Maya version is at the same level.

Is Phoenix FD more or less the same between Max and Maya? or does the Maya version still have missing features?

I can only see v2 available as a demo. Is there a way to get hold of a v2.2 demo?

I'm considering using phoenix instead of bifrost for ease of use and better rendering integration.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Currently the latest available Maya version is 2.0. By buying Phoenix FD you can request access to the nightly builds as well - these builds are currently ahead of Phoenix 2.2 functionality-wise and will soon be equalized with Max, where there are a lot of improvements over 2.2.

    Thank you,

      Thanks for letting me know.

So does that mean you can do oceans/wake/foam that render in v ray with the current nightly build?

Also is there documentation for this or do you need to use the max docs for oceans tools?

Also is there an ETA for an official new build?

Yes, there should be no problem regarding this. The FLIP solver still needs to be implemented in Maya but that should be soon.

Also is there documentation for this or do you need to use the max docs for oceans tools?

There is an updated Maya version of the docs which is under development right now. As for ETA on the new official builds I can't say anything.

          Hello,

Just checking in to see what the current dev work on Maya looks like in relation to MAX. Is the FLIP solver implemented or any news on the documentation?

I've heard some chatter on the Maya beta forums about improvements to bifrost so just thought I would see what Phoenix has to offer on the Maya side currently.

          Cheers

            Hello,

The Flip solver is now implemented in Maya but still needs some improvement. But at the time of the next release Maya and Max versions should look pretty much the same.

As for the Docs - they will be live as soon as we make our new official release.

            Best regards,

              Thanks for the update

I think I'll hold off purchasing until the next release. Have you got a set release date planned in the roadmap?

I can say only that it will be soon, nothing more unfortunately.
