  • igniting a petrol trail

    Hi,

I've produced a liquid sim and now i'm trying to set it alight so that the fire begins at the starting point (the source of the liquid) and then spreads out to cover the whole of the fluid.
can anybody offer any advice or better still send me a link to a tutorial that i can follow as i can't find one anywhere.
    cheers.

    Hey,

So if you have a ready liquid sim, you could:
    - Create a Fire sim on top of it.
    - You could enable mesh preview on the liquid sim so you can check the surface that will be used by the fire sim as an emitter.
    - Create a new source and pick the liquid sim in it.
    - Put the liquid source in the exclude list of the fire sim in the Interaction panel.
    - Put the fire source and the fire sim in the exclude list of the liquid sim.
    - In the fire source, put an animated map in the discharge map slot - this way you can animate which portions of the liquid will emit fire over time.

I think this should be the entire procedure.

        Hi
In order for us to have steaming water or liquid on fire do we need to simulate water first and then add another container around it for smoke fire? Can water and steam/smoke simulate at the same time? Sometimes we get an error PHXsource has liquid value above 1 Thank you

Yup, for now you need to add a second simulator for smoke and fire - we are yet to figure out how to do both kinds of sims in just one pass.

Make sure to exclude the fire sources from the liquid simulator and the liquid sources from the fire simulator though! By default Phoenix interacts with everything in the scene, so the two simulators will automatically pick each other's sources and will show you this warning message.
