This would be great. Off by default makes a lot of sense for our work, and I'd imagine for others too. I don't think I can recall any instances where we actually wanted lights to be visible in render.
Invisible lights are not physically accurate, and default values in V-Ray are typically set to produce physically plausible results. I understand why having them invisible by default might work better for your type of work, but I'm a bit hesitant to change the defaults for everyone.
You can always use the our light lister to easily change all lights to invisible or make a simple script to make them invisible all at once (after they're created of course). Will this work for you?

Yes, thank you We do have some tools in place to help. It is something that I have always felt could be a default, but I understand your feelings of it needing to be physically correct. Worth a shot.
