So, I don't want to give you false hopes or anything, I just want to say that we are (very tentatively) considering the effort that would be required to implement Phoenix FD in Modo. It may or may not happen, we are just doing some exploration.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thanks Vlado! Totally understand not wanting to raise any expectations but even taking a look is far far more than others appear to be doing or communicating with their audiences. Making the effort and keeping us informed goes a long way with potential and current customers. Regardless of the decision, I want to thank you and the whole team for giving our wish consideration.

Thanks for the update Vlado. As a long time 3ds Max user (migrating to Modo), I remember that 3ds Max has NEVER and still does not have native volumetric FX (simulation) tools. It doesn't even have volumetric shaders to create clouds, like the old plugins Afterburn and PyroCluster. Because of this, it was never considered much of a VFX application. As soon as FumeFX came onto the scene, that changed dramatically. Max is now considered a very viable VFX platform simply because of one plugin. FumeFX opened a market for Max that wasn't there before.

Likewise, Modo has no legit VFX simulation tools to serve the VFX industry. Your implementation of PhoenixFD will change that. Not only will it open a market for your plugin, but it will attract studios to Modo that didn't consider it before, because it is missing this one large component.

That is great news, even if you are just exploring the possibilities initially. Thanks for at least looking into it. Much appreciated!

I have V-Ray for both 3ds Max and MODO but honestly prefer to work in MODO. Phoenix FD in MODO would be fantastic as its features is sorely needed for all of us that thinks Houdini is just too overwhelming to learn.

Just seen the latest vids for Phoenix FD 3.0 for Maya. Looking great.
Hope you guys at ChaosGroup are still considering the development of Phoenix FD for MODO.

              regards

I have Phoenix FD and V-ray for Max, but I think it's about time Autodesk and I part ways. The fact that V-ray for Modo is done by Chaos Group is already a pro for Modo. I'd love to see Phoenix for Modo.

Modo / Substance_suite / V-ray / Still need something to fill the hole that motion builder filled.. if anyone has ideas? Using a perception neuron. also since apple bought the face animation folks.. prolly so we can wave at our iPhones more.. looking for something there too.

Coming from 3ds Max (tired of their expensive subs), I bought a license of Modo + VRay, but I have to admit I am really conflicted between making Modo, Blender or Houdini (Indie) my new home. All have strengths and tradeoffs. Knowing that PFD is coming for Modo, would really make it an easier decision to go with Modo.

I've said before, but it is worth repeating...3ds Max has no native fluid dynamics simulation engine. It doesn't even have a modest volumetric engine (like Afterburn or PyroCluster), natively. However, it is a heavy hitter in the VFX market for one reason....FumeFx. One plugin made it a solid VFX platform. Then PhoenixFD came along and made Max an even stronger platform. If Sitni-Sati can carve out a niche for it and 3ds Max, why would Chaos Group not be capable of doing the same with PhoenixFD and Modo?
