So does that mean its a cooling issue or heat sink issue or maybe both?
I guess you have to do one to see if its the other?

I did have a case once where a secondary fan broke off from one controller chip on the motherboard. That alone left the pc running but as soon as there was any kind of load the system would freeze up. It was a small heat sinc with a small fan but enough to cause trouble. Who's to say you aren't experiencing similar issue.

I am not sure I follow this one, all the case fans are working, as well as the CPU fan.

From my limited experience, AMD does seem to run pretty hot. I have an 8-core chip and it's usually around 70C under full continuous load, whereas another computer I have is a more recent i7 intel, and it runs around 65C at full load (but it does have a somewhat better fan) It could just be you need a bigger heatsink and fan for your CPU. Have you tried putting on a different heatsink and fan?

No, this isn't something that I have got to yet, but realizing that it may ultimately need to be this.
Been researching decent models that work with my chip. Have any input on one?

N99hockey, if you have all fans spinning, if you have any on the motherboard, that are also spinning then its fine. I was just making an example that its not necessarily the cpu fan that can make a system freeze like that.

              Something like this:

I had that fan fail just from years of use and the system froze up immediately.

This Noctua is what I got for my most recent build. It's been working very well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835608067

It came with mounting hardware for any type of CPU.

Ah ok I understand. Yea, all fans are spinning.
