  • Is it possible to project a image on to a smoke cloud and have it stick?

Hi guys! Is it possible to project a image on to a smoke ball and then watch the image break apart as the smoke animates out from the ball? I suppose you would need to specify a reference frame where it would make the color into the voxels.

So far this seems to be impossible but I thought I would check here in case someone has a sweet hack.

you have to set the rgb channel of the source with a map and then to use this channel as diffuse color of the smoke

Indeed, it's not impossible, but very simple instead if you need something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ea_AL8khEI

As Ivaylo said, you need to turn on RGB in the Source and enable the Map and place your image there. You also need to enable RGB in the Output panel and finally, after you've simulated it, you need to enable RGB in Rendering -> Volumetric Options -> Smoke color -> Based On = RGB.

That would be all Don't forget to increase the resolution of your simulator in case you get a very pixelated initial image.

      Cheers!
