  • Rain in maya?

    Hi,

Is rain possible in pheonix for maya? or water droplet system? I need to wet a car.

I know in max pflow does a great job at rain, especially for what I'm using it for (rain on a car) but I am looking for a maya solution.

    Hello,

Depends on the type of rain you are after.

Here is a quick demo I did for wetting a car using Phoenix.

The scene is for Maya 2016 ext2. but I can port it for an older version if you want it.

      Awesome thank you!

While this is excellent for my purposes now (still shot) I suppose it wouldn't be the best route for something like this

Can pheonix generate on objects surface like pflow?

Yes you can generate liquid over the surface of objects,

though if you're looking for something like the Pflow method, probably Maya's nParticles will give you more control for that effect.

Otherwise, you can use the Phoenix Source, set it to surface force and set the Discharge to a small value or even animate it off at some point. Then you can use a texture to modulate the emission of the different channels or particles.

            Interesting ideas!

I would like to not have to rely on any material maps for emission, as I would like to use this on different projects not all of which will be easily UV mappable (cad cars)

I love the control with Pflow to create these variety of drops that interact with eachother- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X5mW3GUTWs

It seems with this current rain setup I am having a hard time controlling the 'trail' (I can't get one at all just drops) as well as having different drops do different things (some static while others are bigger and rolling)

Also with this current rain set up it seems a lot of simulation time is wasted with the drops falling through the air, as opposed to if they were generated on the surface from the get go.

so much to learn! so far loving pheonix

              Hey there,

Wetness doesn't seem to be rendering for me. Used the example posted here and did a few other tests. Any ideas?

              Thanks

                  Hello,

I forgot to include the shader for the scene. Sorry about that. Here is an updated version.

You can set it up by yourself by using the following setup - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...articleTexture

I've been playing with Gerogis scene and am wondering if it can be modified to generate/ emit the water particles on the surface of the car/object rather than falling from the sky and merely landing on the surface of whatever object is beneath it. Say for a sphere for examples I would like the whole sphere to be 'wet' and not just the top half.

I guess you should be able to emit the particles from a liquid source using the object as an emitter with a very weak discharge, potentially even animated to zero after it emits once, and mapped with a texture.
