  • how to start network simulation

Hi, I would like to start a network simulation. I use Backburner, with the simsubmission installed in toolbar (explained in docs) . I set network path for Output cache.
When I start, I see job in backburner, but only frame 0 is assigned, wait about 15 minutes (my simulation in local take about 5 minutes) and jobs ends. But nothing is saved in the output folder.
Someone can help me to understand where I'm wrong?
I also check the license status, when job start I can see 1 render license engaged.

    Hey,

You should better contact Support regarding this. Sounds like the remote machine does not write the cache file where they should be output. If you run the same scene on your PC through Backburner, does it work correctly?

    Cheers!

I have this same problem. Can you tell me how to find out where Phoenix might be trying to write to? Simulation jobs don't work for me on my workstation either, but the workstation does sim fine whilst working inside 3ds max.

      Thanks.

        Hello,

Do you set your output path to a specific network location? The default one won't work you need to set this explicitly.

I've tried setting my output paths within the Phoenix GUI to UNC shared network directories, mapped drives and local folders. With each I am unable to get a Phoenix simulation job to start. The license is being checked out however. I was hoping there was some internal caching (perhaps to a temp folder somewhere) that is preventing the files from being written.

If the issue occurs on your local machine as well, then the possible issues narrow down. Which versions of 3ds Max and Backburner do you have installed?

I am using 3ds Max 2014 SP5 with Backburner 2014. I am using the Phoenix 3.00.02 (Default Scanline) installation.

I have tried starting the job with the command line and by using Muster Render Manager, but the result has always been that the simulation never starts. Max just opens the render progress dialog indefinitely.

Ah, got it! We found some issues on BB 2014 as well. 2015+ is good right now though. I'll be on these ASAP and will update you.

                  Hey,

The fixes for the Backburner issues with older versions of BB will be in Monday's nightly build. I used the occasion to add some more options to the submitter as well.

                  Cheers!
