  • Some feedback / suggestions

    Hello there,
I've been using V-Ray where I work and it's been a real pleasure! Great job.
    I thought I would share some feedback/suggestions if I may :
    ( I've used v3.3 on Maya 2016 / windows)

    1) It would be useful to have visual viewport controls for the Depth of field that we could directly adjust, (one for the focus, and two other for the start/end of the defocus - see image below).
I know it would not be realistic but would be very artist friendly.

    2) Like above, near/far attenuation controls on lights would be great, or a way to manually control the decay.
Having visual controls on the viewport to control those would be awesome.

    3) When checked 'show environment' to see it in the viewport, it would be nice if we could see it on a sphere rather than having it fullscreen.
Right now I find it sometimes a difficult to place/naviguate into the hdr. I believe Arnold does something like that.

    4) Would it be possible to have the translating scene/pre-render calculation using all the processors ?
(I might be wrong but I think it's only using one proc - but maybe that's not possible)

    5) Tell me if I'm wrong but dynamic splitting bucket when batch rendering .exr doesn't not seem to be working, could it be?

    6) I would like to be able to pan outside of the border of the image in the VFB (see image below).
Sometimes when zoomed into a part of the render like the corner of the image, I would like to be able to pan more so the corner would be in the middle of the VFB.
It would be useful to detach the image of the border to see it better and place it in the center of the VFB.

I don't know if other users feel the same about the above feedbacks or if it's only me, but I thought I would share those.
    Thanks for your time,

Not possible, Maya's APIs are single threaded.

Check your log. If they are not supported with your settings then it will be written in the log. I think this is not supported for deep images.

Ok thanks for the info, too bad Maya's APIs are single threaded.
I'll check the log about the dynamic splitting bucket, but I wasn't using deep.

If you have a scene that is taking too much time in the export and update frame phases - it will be quite helpful if you can send it to our support for investigation.
There are some known problems in this area, but we're trying to improve the export time as much as possible.

The only scene which took more time to translate was because it has like 300 frames (during batch rendering), but one frame translated quickly.
Anyway thanks, I won't hesitate to contact support if that happens.
