  • Having glow fresnel edges for high roughness material

vincentch20 at Polycount has illustrate this problem long time ago
    http://polycount.com/discussion/comm...omment_2405685

I am having the same issue for a very long time now.

I understand that fresnel should give 100% reflection to angle away from camera. however for rough surface I assume the fresnel will decay due to the rough surface will scatter light away. As vincentch20 has illustrate clearly from his screen shot to compair with substance's PBR render

The edge indeed glowing for that matter.

I myself has made videos on youtube about this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dURtkrQloWA
And I really dont like my work around. I recently found a better work around which is to lower the refraction IoR value according to my gloss map. However I am not sure if this is what vray is intended to do and what is the solution for this.

Metalic objects are fine. Only for those dielectric material is having problem in extreme angle. I get that a lot when making ground and floor. When the camera is very close to the ground. I don't think vray 3dmax is having this problem. Only on vray maya.

The latest version of VRay (3.5?) has glossy Fresnel in the VrayMtl.

Adding the Glossy Fresnel option in the V-Ray/Maya plugin is in our to-do list.

In the meantime, in the V-Ray for Maya nightly builds, you can get glossy Fresnel through the BRDFVRayMtl material (Create > V-Ray > Create from V-Ray plugin > BRDF material > BRDFVRayMtl). The glossy Fresnel option should be somewhere there.

          Best regards,

The nightly builds are work in progress version of our plugin, they are not considered as stable as the official builds but usually contain major bug fixes or features which might be important for a particular project.
