Also disappaointed with release. I posted issues with ie. material management in Beta forum (more than once), but no one fra CG replied. That single issue, is dealbreaker.
I think its a real pity, that this release is a scaled down version of vray. Why cant I have volume lights i rhino?

We started looking for other solutions instead of upgrading, but if issues are really being handled, it could be interesting after all. Opens the question, if one could have another trial... Simply too many problems with workflow in first release.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that these issues have not been fixed and still happen on a daily basis.

        Hello everyone
This is my first post because i was looking exactly for something like this.
It is May the 22nd and i have experienced almost all of the above mentioned bugs. Some bugs i didnt see, but thats because i didnt use the features that seem to cause them - like swarm rendering.
We use Vray heavily on many computers in our company, sometimes for 10 hours a day and those little things like wrong priorization between programs because of vray just take the happiness out of me everyday.
Even though it is said that the bugs are fixed from the Beta to now, theyre not.

furthermore bugs i have not read in this post:

        - rendering gpu accelereated with vray 2.0 materials only renders their upmost layer so some parts of a model only reflect light and dont show maps.
        - alpha doesnt work properly. ive had many renderings with windows with glass or like vitrines with class - and the alpha just paints them solid black. 2.0 and 3.0 materials.
        - when purging unused materials, more often than not materials that are actually used are also deleted.

The main reason is that those V2 material are basically the old ASGVIS materials code and the V-Ray GPU plugin do not recognize them. We are working in a fix, but it will take some times.

alpha doesnt work properly. ive had many renderings with windows with glass or like vitrines with class - and the alpha just paints them solid black. 2.0 and 3.0 materials.
There is an option in the Reflection and Refraction area called "Affect Channel) by default it is set to Color. So it will give you a solid color for the alpha. If you change that to "Color + Channel" or to "All Channel" it will give you the result you are looking for.
          Image attached

when purging unused materials, more often than not materials that are actually used are also deleted.
We are not able to reproduce this issue. Can you give us a little bit more information about this issue. How big is the scene? How many materials? What kind of material get deleted? and any other info that could help us to reproduce the issue. Maybe a scene that help us to reproduce the issue.

True, but do you honestly think that this is the best workflow for finding one of potentially hundreds of layers? Additionally, and more importantly, the hover is buggy... I'd say 50% of the time it fails to load the tooltip, I have to move the mouse over another layer listed, wait for that to load the tooltip, then hover back over the intended layer to then wait again for the hover to (hopefully!) load...and after all that it might not be the layer I'm looking for! I can do a video screengrab of this if you want additional proof?

              - No material drag and drop on layer - its pretty much a standard functionality.

              - Even if the tooltip worked, it is not a fast, intuitive workflow

              - Why is the layer-popup-list so narrow? And why can't it be torn or become temporarily frozen when clicked? Maybe my mousing skills are bad, but I find this extremely painful to work with.

              - There is no texture preview in rhino UV editor when using a Vray material

              - No preview of material settings when browsing the library (doubleclick or like Keyshot where it appears in right window when marked?)

              - A material override functionality for parent layers would be nice, a la C4d or partitions in Softimage.

              - No drag and drop from scene material list to library (or other easy method)

              Bests,
              Morten

The menu gives us no more than 11 characters for a layer name.
Here's the issue with that: in Rhino you need to be very careful with naming layers so you don't mess up the order during copy-paste or block operations. Therefore we always put the name of the parent layer into any sublayer's name - elongating it well over 11 chars in any given scene.
Please urgently make the menu adapt its width, accordingly!

                Thank you,
                Matthias

I just downloaded trial for sketchup to see what to expect in next update.

To my great disappointment, the problem of assigning materials has been "solved" by expanding the limitation of 11 characters to 13...........
There is still no drag and drop onto layers, and there is still the super annoying problem of the layer list disappering on mouse-off. I'm banging my head into the table everytime I have scrolled down to find the proper layer, counted which number of parent layer because I can't see the sublayername, and then I have to start over, because I move the mouse slightly .

There is also still no simple way to build a material library.

Haven't tested more, but both of these issues are total party killers

Really, really hope, something is done about this in Rhino update!

Thanks for the Update Rumlab... 13 characters, ha! Can't say I've come to expect much more than that from ChoasGroup lately... disappointing news indeed. Do they even ever use the software they create?

Probably not in a production environment - that's why there is a beta. They just chose to disregard the feedback....

Oh, just checked it again and need to correct myself: it allows up to 15 characters that will be reduced by the triple-dots indicating a longer layer name.
I have to admit it works just fine for a layer called [Test]
