  • Unable to acquire V-Ray for Rhinoceros GUI License - WINDOWS 7

    I know some have posted about this before...

    But I think this is a slightly different scenario.

    1. My online licence was set to expire yesterday (May 12). Why?! I have a purchased a licence.
    2. I started to get this error today (May 13th), so I suspect the licence expiration is the problem.
    3. My dongle is green in licence manager, but I'm still unable to acquire a licence!?
    4. I made sure everything in my windows firewall was allowed.
    5. I'm out of ideas and completely sick of the complications I have to go through to get my licence and swarm functioning properly.
    6. I'm running windows 7. (not 10 - where I know an issue has recently appeared).

    Help appreciated.

    Update: I took the advice from Helldoor and did a uninstall + a clean new install - this seemed to fix the immediate problem...=

      I'm expereincing the same kind of problems under windows 10 and reinstalling vray doesn't work. The new licensing server looks nice and all but it seems it's just a big mess. Sent mail to support and waiting.

        Agreed!

        What does a person have to do around here to get swarm to work as advertised. Are ChaosGroup completely unaware that the dongle (why are we still using dongle if online licencing has superseded it!?) does not lend licences as it should. SWARM DOES NOT WORK with only dongle since my temporary online licence has expired. WHY DID IT EXPIRE!?

        Obviously, I'm completely frustrated by this. Support has been anything but supporting. The *.rtu file they keep sending me isn't helping either.

        Again, a $4000 machine is now sitting next to me idle.... Ughh

          I can't even get Rhino GUI license.

          I pretty much can't work right now. If this happens during a submission i'm fu***d. Maybe I should just get a cracked version

            Support fixed my problem, somehow my dongle was not configured properly.

            As for Swarm, I had to correctly point my rendernode to my main PCs IP address to get the dongle license. I guess i missed that part of the installation. If someone wonders, here's the instructions to enabling swarm licensing:

            To be able to render on the additional render nodes:
            1. You have to have V-Ray SWARM installed on the render node - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...UP/V-Ray+Swarm
            2. The license setting of SWARM should point to the machine with the license server installed
            to do that - navigate to http://localhost:24267/configuration on the render node machine, disable SWARM from the slider in the upper right corner. Un-check "Use system license configuration" box and enter the IP address of the license server - IP_Address:30304
            Save the settings and enable SWARM from the slider.

              Legend! Got it working! (for now; many times I've now had it work for 5 mins before being 'UNSTABLE' again for days)

              Was actually pretty straight forward in the end... Why wouldn't ChaosGroup make this more clear!?

              Note for other users; I was a little confused at first... I thought "IP_Address:30304" meat exactly that, but you have to actually replace the "IP_Address" part with your master PC's IP address.

              Thanks Mate!

                @aaouviz:
                Is the temporary license a trial one? If so, it has a set 30-day expiry date.

                When using a dongle license connected to the Online License Server (OLS) you are only able to access the dongle licenses on the machine that the dongle is connected to. You are unable to access dongle licenses over the internet on another machine logged into the OLS.
                https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ration-License

                Online licensing is currently available for new license purchases only, as our existing licensing system does not allow migration of licenses from dongles to OLS. We are actively working on a fast and reliable license migration tool, which will be released in the middle of 2017.

                @AiEm:

                  For some reason my render node started having problems again, not able to obtain license even when i specify ip adress and same port. It seems every windows of vray update brings new problems with licensing. I've reinstalled the latest vray multiple times but it doesn't help. Still very unhappy with the dongle system
