  • Renderman RIB archive equivalent for VRay

    Hi,

I come from Renderman background & am evaluating VRay for the first time. In Renderman, we can archive a scene or complex geometry into RIB ( Renderman Scene description file format ) & then later refer that RIB archive in any maya file. This RIB archive is not rendered in Maya viewport but rather you just have a reference ( most of the times Cube) in the scene. This usually is very helpful in complex heavy scenes where RIB archive gets rendered only during final frame rendering.

Do we have something similar in VRay? I read about *.vrscene format & tried exporting my scene into the same. However, am not sure how this vrscene file can be then referred into another maya scene file & rendered using VRay.

Any help on this would be great!

    Best Regards.

It looks like you are looking for the VRayScene node; see here for more information:

        Hi Vlado,

As it turns out the option I was looking for is known as VRay proxies.

This makes dealing with huge complex scene easier. Thanks for the suggestion.
