  • VRay RT rendering slow with many errors

    Hello all,
My company just invested in a new computer to speed up my pipeline. I've got two Nvidia 1080 GTX cards that I've set to render with and a smaller one just for the display. But after multiple tests I'm getting better speeds just rendering off the CPU (Intel Xeon E3-1275 v5).
I custom ordered this build so I could work on other projects to free up the CPU though. I've tried PNG sequence and RT will layer the sequence ontop of one another. With Tiff sequence it just crashes after 3 frames. On top of everything else, the anti-aliasing appears inferior to the V-Ray Adv settings. I've attached an image below. Is there something I'm missing? GPU should be faster for animation, right?

    Thanks in advance

    -Mike

Hard to say without more data - host app, version, log, or if you the best will be to share the scene. It will be helpful if we can check here what is going on.
In the meantime, it might be good to check if you are using drivers > 380 and to downgrade to any that is 37X.

      Blago,
Which drivers are you referring to and how would I verify if they're > 380?

I have V-Ray RT 3.50.03 running in 3ds Max 2017. I'm unable to duplicate the errors I was receiving, but the file is still saving overlapping images.
I'm unsure of how to save out the log or where it's located in windows 10. But I've included a screenshot.

      Thank you,

      -Mike

Another piece of information that may be crucial. For the image sampler I'm doing selected objects only. This option works just fine in Vray ADV & is creating overlapping images like Vray RT.
I'm trying to render out a camera circling an object & I want the lighting information from the scene, but not the background.

Please can you confirm is using drivers >380 still a problem ? I have 1080 ti's and am using drivers 382.05. In fact, my cards didn't come with 370 drivers (so where would I get those ?).

            Hello All,
I was able to track down the solution to the overlapping RT render sequence issue in the link below!
In case the link dies, here's the solution:

You can do this by selecting everything in the scene except the tree or object you are trying to render. Right click => VRay Properties => Check the "matte object" box and change alpha contribution to -1.0. Then hit render. Only the object you haven't changed to a matte object will render while the other objects will become totally transparent. In the instances of objects in front of your tree/object, they will also become transparent creating a masking pattern in front of your object.

I have a ticket in to hopefully resolve my slow rendering issue still though. Hopefully they'll be able to say where we can get the older drivers mentioned above.

            -Mike

I'm using 378.92 on my 1080 ti and 980. They work well for me so far. You can download them here: http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...x/116346/en-us
