  • Material Question & general forum question

    Hi everyone,

my first question is about a certain material, which I have a problem with replicating.
Its called Exyd and I tried using a jpg. of water droplets and silver material but that didnt give the correct impression.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Second point is:

how come I cannot post a new topipc in V-ray for Rhino: General or any of the Forums?

    Thanks guys!

Could you post a rendering of your material? Your way sounds good.

LIke this or do you mean it differently?

I would try a much higher bump multiplier and also you could try the vray noise as texture.

Ok, but how would I make a bump map out of that material?
http://cpetry.github.io/NormalMap-Online/ I use this website. But I have to admit I dont know what to use where when it comes "Normal, Displacement, Ambient Occ. and Splecular". You know what I mean? Like which of these fit in which options in rhino?

I would go to the material bump mapping and select noise as texture. Noise mean it's generated by Vray during rendering, no map conversion is needed. Attached a screenshot from VfR2 (I have no VfR3 running at the moment).

Ok So I tried It like that. Its beginning to look like something but not quite there yet. I tried playing with the noise settings but that just deformed the surface.

You could play with frequency and maybe octaves (maybe you need to change the noise type to get it working (perlin?)). So you could add a small noise over the large noise. Also bump intensity could be to high.

Depending on the type of Exyd you want to achieve I urge you to experiment by using a Composite texture, slotting two Noise textures (or Noise + Cellular) with different parameters (amplitude/frequency) and then trying different operators to produce a two-layer (shallow and deep) bump effect.
