  • Ocean vortex

    Hi.
I'm trying to make a vortex in the ocean. I tried to look for tutorials and documentation but did not find anything useful. Can you help me? Thank you

Hey, are you in Max or Maya? You should try the Ocean preset and add a Vortex field/force and the rest would be tweaking the Vortex, which can be very unpleasant... How does your setup look so far?

      Hi Svetlin.
I use 3dsmax 2017. I tried with vortex but I got strange results. It does not create vortex but only noise in the water. I tried putting an object plunged under the surface by turning it but the effect is still far from the result I would like. I do some other test and let you know.
Vortex works fine with fire but for the water we are far far away from the desired results
      Cheers

Hey, check out this scene. If it doesn't work for you, try a recent or latest nightly build and it should be fine

            Hi Svetilin!
It works now with the last nightly build!
I need to simulate a ocean with objects (like rocks, fish coming out from the ocean and, at the end, the vortex that you help me to resolve) placed quite far away one to another.
It is possible to place many little grid instead of making a really big one and rendering it as ocean?
If yes, can you help me findig good reference to make it?
(sorry for my bad bad english)
            Thank you!!

Hey, yes - you can have multiple containers meshed into one single ocean. This is not very user friendly yet, but all you need to do is to place several simulators in the scene and set all of them to Ocean Mesh mode. This would automatically mesh into one ocean, but you need to watch out which one becomes the "master" simulator - there will be a message box informing you which one it is. This would be the simulator which controls the ocean height, subdivs, etc, as well as the simulator from which the material is taken. All the other containers will not affect the look of the ocean, so changing their settings won't work.

                  Hope this will help

360 rendering of the phoenix ocean is still in the to do list I'm afraid.
