  • So confused.

    Hi.
I have been reading everything I can, searching the forums, degesting hundreds of tip and tricks and I am starting to get the hang of general interior lighting. However, after waiting 1 hour for a solution and render @ 320x240, when I wanted to rerender at 1250x750, VRay wanted to do the calculations from scratch again.
What am I missing? Where is the "re-use GI solution" button ( or similar )

I want to love VRay, and I am very happy with my first results, but simply cannot wait an hour for each frame.

    Thanks.

it should not take that long, no way no how.

post a Screen shot of your scene, and your settings for the rendering.

travistlo is right .. an hour is way to long ...
you must have not saved the Irr map if you did then you are not rendering from it .. also its not a good idea to render the Irr map @ such a low res and then render a final image @ the size you are trying to.

      show us your settings.

Is there an easy way to post the settings? There look to be about 100.

What's up with the glowing art work on the wall?

        Polygon count: 47000+/-

I turned off the caustics calculation from the three lights (helped speed it up a bit)

          Are you using Photons ?
Just do a print screen on the vray roll out and crop it in PS and post it.

Ok. I think I got 90% of the settings shown here in these screen caps.

            [/img]

So. Once I've done the original Photon map, I change it to Irradiance map? Then save the Irradiance map and reuse it?

I know it's not perfect, but about 700% better than first several tries.

Still took over 1 hour to calculate, but subsequent images only took 2 minutes to render (1250x750)

I had a number of material errors (as you can see) and I still have a long way to climb before I'll be posting in the gallery. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

                Cheers.

P.S. What would you recomend to use as secondary lighting (ie: desk lamps, fill light, etc.) Spots with VRay shadows? VRay lights?

Lester, I would suggest using some color mapping to get rid of the burn-out on the walls. Also, your textures need some work. The noise texture on the dividers is to large if your trying to get a grey cloth look. I would also suggest a solid color for the chairs.

Not bad, it just needs some fine tuning!

                      Thanks.

Yes, I have a list of items to review and learn.

Someone mentioned a HELP file. I don't seem to be able to locate it. Is it a .chm file? Is it not available with the 1.46.10 demo?

I'm going to keep looking and trying. The images in the gallery are some of the nicest I've ever seen.

                      Cheers,
