  • Maya Phoenix fd resimulation

    Hello,
I'm trying re simulate a waterfall I'm doing. I have 900 hundred frames cache out with velocity and I wanted to add foam, splash and wet maps. I'm already at 8.8 billion particles for the cache files. I just want the resim to affect the particles but it's greyed out for some reason. Why is That? I already simmed for 2 days now and I want the foam and splash to look good but not add another 8 billion. Also I just want to add to the existing sim not recalculate everything. Can you guys help?
    Thanks

    Hey,

Did you run the resim? For liquids, it affects only particles and cannot change the grid - this is why it's greyed out. You can only choose to resim particles or grid for the Fire sim, but for the Liquid one, there is no grid resim anyway

Ping us if you have any issues, cheers!

Can I resim and get just splashes, resim then just get foam, and resim and get wet maps. When I try to resim it would top out my memory, (64 gb). I thought that if I resim it's adding to the cached not recalculate all the particles.

Nop, the resimulation recreates the selected particle systems - this way you could reduce or remove particles from the original sim.

Running out of memory during resim is an interesting occasion though. What grid resolution do you have? Do you run out of memory at the very start of resim, or you are able to output some frames first. If you do have caches, could you share the channel list from the Simulation rollout - this will contain info on which particle system is likely to blame, and then you'll be able to reduce their birth rate or increase their birth thresholds.

        Cheers!

It's at the start of my sim. I doesn't get to the point of caching. I thought it was the cell size, so increased that. But it's still blasting my cores and memory. I'll try to reduce the birth rate see if that works.

Hmm, in this case it might not be the birth rate. Would it be possible to attach the Phoenix log?

            Thanks!

I started over with a larger cell size.

                Oh Lord,
I can't, not for the life of me, figure out how to post a new topic. I think I lost my permission. Maybe?
Anyways. I'll see if I can get a response from my former post. I resimmed my waterfall and everything is great but in order to get the look I wanted I scaled my scene down by half. I tried re scaling in Maya by grouping the scene and scaling it up. This worked with liquid but the foam and splashes are way to large. Is there a way to scale up a Phoenix FD scene whiling keeping the cached sim the same. Also if I export it than I can scale it up but how do I export the foam and splash particle?
                Thanks
