  • File Name Prefix <Layer> Not Working

The File Name Prefix <Layer> does not append the render layer name to the file name. As such, if multiple layers are rendered, then each layer is overwritten by next layer. If I do not add <Layer>, then nothing saves at all.

    My current convention: <Version>/T38_<Layer>_<Version>
    (The layer name is PlaneFG)

    Expected file output: v020/T38_PlaneFG_v020.0001.exr
    Actual file output: v020/T38__v020.0001

The only way that I have got this to work is by creating a layer override for the File Name Prefix and manually adding the name of the layer. However, I still must include <Layer>, otherwise nothing will save. Like this:
    <Version>/T38_<Version>_<Layer>PlaneFG

I am using Maya 2017 (update 3) with the new Render Setup and V-ray 3.52 EDU.

This seems to be working fine at our end. Are you using 3.52.03?
Can you attach one scene just in case ? Click image for larger version Name:	maya_2017-07-24_16-38-31.png Views:	1 Size:	175.7 KB ID:	961532

Absolutely. I've attached the scene. Yes, I am using 3.52.03. I should also mention that I am batch rendering from the Windows context menu (right-click > Render).

        Thank you!

The issue is reproducible with your file, but we have to test a little bit more to see where exactly is the problem.

        Actually I have a question.
Have you created those layers in the older Maya version or the setup is done completely on Maya 2017 and new render layer management ?

The setup was done in Maya 2017's new render layer setup. I did import the plane geometry and animation from a Maya 2016 version, although I deleted all of the original render layers before exporting it. I don't think there is a way to convert the old render layers to the new ones, which is why I did so.

It's considered as a bug and our developers will work to fix it. I will post here when we have any progress.

Okay. Thanks for taking a look at it. Interestingly, the master layer, if set to render, does render with "masterLayer" in the prefix. Anyway, I deleted the render layers, re-exported the geometry, camera, and animations from this scene, and imported it into a new scene. So far the <Layer> prefix is working correctly with the new scene.

Yes, I noticed that too, furthermore it seems to be a problem with our renderer only. However, we'll try to fix it.

A very similar problem is occurring with the new scene. One of the render layers is now being labeled incorrectly. The PlaneBG layer is being labeled as PlaneBG_smoke, which is a different render layer. The output saves this way too. I've attached this file in case that it is useful.
