  • MayaMesh has no color Set so I cant get motion blur

Im trying to render a blood sim and all is great except that when I use the RenderMode Mesh and use the Mesh Tyoe Maya Mesh, it does not get the colorSet needed to have Vray motion blur the changing point count mesh.

The reason I want to use the mesh is because its giving way better results than the other types in terms of quality.
The workaround was to get the liquid particles to pipe out the nparticle system and use that to mesh and get the color set, but that mesher is not as good or efficient as the Maya Mesh option in pheonix.

    any thoughts?

    Hello,

Indeed something is not right. I have logged it into our bug tracking system and I hope we will have a fix soon.

+1 on this thanks guys. Looking for the velocity data in the Motion Vector Color Set from a 'Mays Mesh' type.

Hey guys, in tomorrow's nightlies finally the simulation velocity will be exported to the "phoenix_velocity" color set, so you can get motion blur in Maya Mesh mode or export Alembic files with velocity as well.

              Cheers!

                Hi Guys,
Picking up on this post - Has anyone had success exporting (and then re-importing) the phoenix_velocity data into an alembic cache?

The moblur has been working perfectly on the PFD Maya Mesh.

But when exporting to alembic, I just cant get that data to import as a motion vector color set. Attached are the settings when exporting to alembic.

                Am I missing something here?

                Thanks in advance guys.

You are just in time for this - I am working on this as we speak. Currently if you import the Alembic via the built-in Maya importer, you will be able to use the phoenix_velocity set, but if you import it via vrayproxy the velocity color set will not show up.

In a few days in the nightlies there will be a new control that allows you to name the velocity colors set in a way that will be recognized by the vrayproxies in Max, Maya, etc - "v", or "velocity".

Will ping you when this is ready so you can grab a latest nightly and try it out. If using the built-in Maya importer is an option for you, you can use that as a workaround for now. It does not allow for rescaling the velocity though, if needed.

                  Cheers!

Hey, so the changes will be in tomorrow's Phoenix nightly builds. Please give it a try and ping me if there are still any issues. Now a known problem would be that using Maya's built-in abc importer, the velocity will be scaled a lot.

                    Cheers!
