  • Before I Buy

I'm thinking about buying a couple of licenses of V-Ray. We have 13 computers we use for rendering but only a couple of people who do lighting. If I buy only two licenses will I be able to render using V-Ray with the other computers or do I need to buy a license for each computer?

How does the floating license work?

    Thanks

    Some info here: http://vray.info/topics/t0111.asp

The floating license server can be installed locally on each workstation for each license or on a separate server with all the licenses consolidated if you prefer that. The latter hands out VRay licenses over the network as needed as long as they are not all in use. It works really well here, but some people have experienced problems with Netlimiter or firewalls, this is supposed to be fixed for 1.5 though.

Does the floating license server work with 1.09 build?

You can use up to 10 computers as render nodes with 1 license.

For DR, normal netrendering gives you unlimited nodes.

I think he may be asking something a bit different

There is no 'View only' Vray... every interactive copy of max requires a license..

                Torgeir,
Did they eliminate the 10 computer limit on nodes?

Alexie, there never was a 10 computer limit for backburner nodes. This has always been unlimited.

                    As Torgeir said:

If you have 1 license ot VRay, you can use it on any computer you want, as long as you use it only there, you cannot use it on 2 computers simultaneously.

If you want to use DR with 1 license of VRay - then you can use have up to 10 pcs rendering (you don't need 10 licenses)

If you want to netrender - then you again need at least one license, to work on 1 computer but you can netrender on unlimited computers.

Distributed rendering is when multiple PCs render one image, netrender is when multiple PCs render different frames of an animation.
                    Best Regards,
