  • Rotate the Repeat

Can you specify a material to be rotated as it repeats in V-Ray, Sketchup, or an extension that works with them? I have a material I'd like to apply to a flat wall, and it will repeat all along the length of the wall. But I'd like it to be rotates a quarter turn every time it repeats. Any way to do this?

    Hello,
There is no way to achieve this entirely through V-Ray's material editor.

You can get a similar result of rotating materials by using a material with 4 layers, each with a diffuse texture set to 0.25 / 0.25 UV placement and then color-corrected and inversing a copy of the texture in the opacity map slot. Having each layer's textures rotated by 90 degrees more than the other will produce the following end result:

To have the texture roll by 90 degrees along the length of the object, the simplest solution would be to simply replicate the texture 3 times from left to right next to the original and rotating each copy. This can be achieved in any image-editing software. Then, you could use such textures in SketchUp with a mapping with W:H ration of 4:1. Here's a hastily made example:
