  • Bath Foam simulation

Hi, I was wondering whether anyone had any advice for achieving a particular effect im needing to do with phoenixfd for maya.

The effect is for a character in a bath tub. The foam needs to be interacted with splashes, and the character ( thats sitting in the bath tub ).

There would be large fluffy pillows of foam - like a cloud over parts of the surface.

I've done plenty of phoenix sims with liquid and small amounts of foam, but unsure how to get all of the foam settled gently on the surface.

    Hey,

It all depends on the results you are after but in general to have a nice bath tub foam make sure to raise your b2b interaction (try with 300-400 for start and you can go up if you need it). Let it settle for a few frames and you should be good to go.

      Thank you for responding.
I had the B2B at about 1200 so have dropped it down to 300-400 to see how it goes.

At the moment I am filling it up from a liquid source like a tap and trying to get it to settle. After 100 frames so far it isnt anywhere near settling, but the amount of bubbles is pretty good.

i tried using an initial fill with a voume fitting the level of water, but wasnt happy with the bubbles I was getting. I was also finding that this caused a wierd reaction and they were all shooting upwards out of the bath.

Try increasing your scene scale and decrease the rising speed for the foam - that should solve the settling of the water and and bubbles shooting upwards.

Wonderful. Already I can see that I am getting far more control. If I am happy with the bubbles/water level and settling - is there a way I can I set an 'initial state' to re-use this position across different fx scenes.

You can use the Load button and load the cache that you like. You can find more about that here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...lation-Actions

After I have filled the bath i am getting a strange effect where there are just a few foam bubbles floating in the air for no apparent reason.. why would this happen?

Are they moving upwards or just floating motionless there?

Check out the Falling Speed parameter. Maybe you should increase it.

If I may drop in on this, the Falling Speed would help you get these bubbles back down quickly, but the question is how did they get there in the first place. Do you have Pattern Strength set above zero?
