  • VRayFur, VRayInstancer & Pflow

    Hi all,
I have a crude crowd setup with an animated character in PFlow and I'd like to add VRayFur to each of these characters but the Instancer doesn't appear to natively support this.
It's similar to an issue flagged in the Maya forum, and solved with a Python script.

Has anyone attempted this in Max, and if so how did you solve it? (maxscript, birthscript, etc?)
    Thanks for any help.

We are working on implementing support for instancing VRayFur through the VRayInstancer, but it is still work in progress unfortunately. It might be ready in a week or so for testing, but I'm not sure it's a good idea to try it out right now.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Hi Vlado,
Thanks for the quick reply, that's great to hear. I've got around 6 weeks left on the project I was hoping to use it for, I'd be happy to help beta test it once you have it in a useable state if you're open to that.
      Best regards,
      Jon

        Hi Vlado,
Just found out about the nightly builds, are they available for the Max version of Vray (couldn't see anything when I logged into the relevant section of my account) and do you think the VRayInstancer/Fur implementation will make it into those, or is it likely to be part of a point release later on?

        Best regards,
        Jon

The code for this feature is still in review and so it's not yet in the nightly builds. I would advise against waiting for this feature though. Even when it goes into the nightly builds, using them in production might be dangerous as they are not very well tested.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Thanks for the update Vlado, I have a version I can render without fur which is good enough for the final edit, so anything at this point would be a bonus and not critical to production.
Would be grateful if you could let us know when it makes the nightly builds once you're happy to release it, I'll drop support a message as I don't appear to have access to the Vray for Max nightlies at the moment.
            Best regards,
            Jon
