Well I've managed to merge everything into a new file and it seems to be working (at least for now). Thanks to Paulison for the reminder of this good ol trick.
i had this same problem, i just replaced the turbosmooth modifier with a meshsmooth on the object that crashed. and the problem was fixed, i've had the same thing when i'm using meshmooth for some objects too, then i just replace it with a new one at it works. i see that u dont got the turbosmooth since u are using max 6, but try replacing the meshmooth modifier with a new one if u are using meshmooth on the objects at all.
For me, the problem is present when i put an 3dsmax SKYLIGTH in the scene after to process the irrandiance map with just the enviroment illumination, and it happens in some rendered frames not for all (in an interior animation).
Personally, never happened with other kind of lights, but skylight helps soooo much in the interior scenes without sacrifice rendering time and gives very good results.......... it´s a shame that vray don´t like skylights.
The same happens with the "overbright surface......" message....
My models are normaly imported from AutoCAD (for architecture) and never, until now when i discovered the benefits of skylight interior lightning, this kind of warnings and errors were showed.......normally the import settings to max are set to "weld options" 0.01
How could i fix this (my max memory using never goes after 340 of my 1.5gb ram, that´s why i think it is not a memory issue).
