  • Foam Life

    Hi Guys!

I'm trying to figure out what is the best way to control foam life but when whole sim is generated within the grid only so it won't leave the grid, viewport screen attached. So in this case would half life parameter be the only one to control this? value of 1 = more or less half of bubbles will disappear after 1 second? is this correct?
    cheers!

    Hey there !

The Half Life parameter works just as you've described.
The Outside Life parameter is used to specify a MAXIMUM on how long a foam particle may live outside the simulation box.

So if you have a very low Half Life and a massive Outside Life, the particles will still die fairly quickly.

Would you mind being more specific as to what you're trying to achieve - I'm not sure I fully understand your question.

Hi Gosho.Genchev, thakns for replying. Basically what I'm asking is a "half life" parameter the only one that controls foam life within the grid sim.

        Hey !
There's also the Vary option right next to the Half Life parameter.
In nature, not all the bubbles have the same half life. Bigger bubbles burst quicker than smaller ones, and bubbles inside foam live longer. When this option is enabled, the Half Life of each bubble is modified taking into account its size and its surroundings.

I should probably also mention that the Outside Life parameter looks at the total age of the particle, and if the particle is older than the Outside Life value, it gets killed. For instance, if the Outside Life is set to 1 and the particle spends 2 seconds in the simulator then leaves, it's going to get killed instantly. Your intuition might be to assume that it's going to live for 1 extra second before dying but that is not the case.
