  • Material/Options/Cast shadows checkbox?

Hello, as the title says I can't find checkbox for material not to cast shadows in V-Ray 3,6 for Sketchup.
Can anyone help me? Is there some kind of manual for this version?

    Hello,

There are two ways to prevent shadows from being cast:

    1. You can control whether a light casts shadows by toggling its Options > "Shadows" checkbox.
Alternatively, you can prevent all lights from casting shadows by disabling the Settings > Switches > Lights > Shadows checkbox.

    2. You can use Override material to prevent a specific material from casting shadows. To do so, create an Override material and set up the material you wish to affect in the Base material slot.
Then create a new Generic material and set its Opacity to 0. The last step is to set the new transparent material in the Override material's Shadow slot.
For more info, visit https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...7C+MtlOverride .

    Kind regards,

Thank you Peter. The second solution did the trick, but I must say (if anyone is reading this) that this is terrible workaround, especially because this should be (and was) as simple as checking the box.
When reapplying override material, you lose uv mapping, so you have to do that again, etc.
Simple fact that we no way to position background correctly in viewport so we have to put a picture in front of the window, and then make override material so it doesn't cast shadow is beyond me.
You can say that most of the users do background in Photoshop but not everybody has PS.
Thank you for making me little less miserable.

I have been looking for this answer since 3.6 came out.
As someone who works with a lot of logos and graphic type treatments that are layered in as transparent PNGs, this workaround adds an enormous amount of complexity to a process that was simply 'click, done'.
Hope this comes back in future updates!
