Creating a material from a coloured bitmap image of fabric. Need to create specular highlights in the dark areas suggesting a few shiny orange threads woven into those areas.
I have created a black and white image to use for mapping displacement and reflections.
I've got some good highlights showing on the coloured bitmap applied only on the dark areas, but it looks like tinsel because I have only figured out how to restrict it to those zones if the highlights are in white. This is because Vray seems to offer an either/or choice beside "Reflection Color" : either apply a reflection colour or create a bitmap alpha channel to apply reflections to particular areas. I can't see how to do both in the Reflections controllers.
(Tried adding another VrayBRDF layer to accomplish each objective on a separate layer, but it didn't seem to work as I expected - plus attempting to render with reflections set up in two different BRDF layers crashed my (relatively hefty, I think) system even in lowres draft.
Suggestions welcome.
