Hello, im very new to Phoenix FD and I was hoping to get a good looking fireball. I know the presets are already looking good but i wanted something like the attached picture. So far I used the burning fuel with smoke preset and tweaking I was able to get the tail long enough but the fire wasnt looking quite right.could someone help me please. I could not get the detail right. I know this would have been a really common effect people would want to do but upon searching the forums i couldnt find anyone discussing it . by the way im using Maya phoenix 3.04

I use Max but I assume Maya has the Fire preset too? That would be your best bet for this and then play with the turbulence settings along with a higher detailed sim. To get that look I would finish it off in comp with sharpen/contrast and boosting the fine highlight areas which would get from that.Adam Trowers

I think using Fire preset is closer to the look you want to achieve. Then you can tweak some parameters like:
- Cooling (decreasing it would let the fire spread more)
- Buffered Conservation should be the best for this case (you can increase it a bit. this would lead to a longer tail)
- Vorticity and Turbulence are key features for the fire dynamics
- Steps per frame - really crucial parameter. The rule here is to begin with smallest one possible and increase it by 1 until you get the right result.
- Volumetric Options in Rendering roll-out - check the Fire, SMoke Color and Smoke Opacity curves. These options are very, very important for the final look. Playing with them, you can achieve the contrast look and different colors.
- And of course, the Grid Resolution is very important too. If you want finer detail in your flames you should have finer resolution, too.
Also, check the documentation for more information about these options.George Barzinski
