  • freezing on compiling geometry

    hi,

im new to rendering, but i have been modeling with scetchup for a couple years.

I am using the trial Vray for sketchup to try it out, i started going through the quickstart turorial videos with the tutorial model and everything seems to work fine, interactive and progressive rendering on very high settings has no problems.

So i loaded up an old model of mine to try out some of the stuff i learned and it keeps freezing up on me.
The vray frame buffer window opens, and in the message window it stalls at compiling geometry, for about 30 seconds, then schetchup pins my memory at 100% and my system freezes.
I turned off displacement but it made no difference.

There must be something in my model as the test model works fine even with displacement, i have little knowlegde of how to model for rendering purposes so im guessing ive done something that Vray doesnt like.

Im traveling at the moment so the system im using is a asus ROG laptop

    GL552VW
    i7-6700HQ@2.6
    16GB ram
    GeForce GTX 960M
    64 bit Win 10 home

      Hi,

If V-Ray Fur has been applied extensively throughout the project, this is expected.
You could use V-Ray Fur for objects close to the camera and a Bitmap texture for those further away.

Another approach would be to enable the 'Level of detail' parameter, which will generate less and less geometry over distance.
