  • Change Vray 3's default folder location for material library?

    Hi all

I use Vray every day and I always look after small tweaks that can help optimize my workflow. I love the new material library in Vray3 and that you can have the preview in Rhino before you add the material. I theory I could add more materials to the default C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for Rhinoceros 5\materials\, but since we are sometimes several people working on the same file, the materials are lost when another person opens the file. Is there a way to change the default location of the material library? Maybe in an ini file somewhere? Would be very cool!

    Thanks

    Hello, Mark,

Changing the location of the material preset library is not possible at this point. Although storing user content in the same location as the V-Ray presets is allowed, it is safer to store them elsewhere. When you open a material from the library, in fact you create a copy of it, while the original remains unchanged. This is why you cannot preserve any changes back in the library. The only way to do it would be by overwriting the source file which is not recommended!

Improving the preset library and providing additional functionality and personalisation is on our roadmap, however, I cannot share any about it yet.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hi Peter

Thanks for your feedback. I really like the new library tab, as it makes a great overview of the possible materials, but without cluttering your file up with unused ones.

Hopefully it will be added in the future - that would be great

      Have a nice weekend.
