Hi, is there any way of rendering parallel projections and show an environment or background? its always black for me - I guess I can comp it in PS but would be nice to do it in SU
    Thanks

You could use "screen" projection instead of environment.

Not sure what you mean by that. You mean in the post rollout in the vfb?

Couple ways to do it. If you have a dome light, you can go to your texture settings and change the environmental mapping from Spherical to Screen. If you are using an environment background, you can add your texture with screen projection there. Yes, if you want, you can add the background to your VFB.

for the life of me I couldn't get this to work. Using an HDRI to light the scene, whatever I do, the background is black, setting env mapping to screen etc, environment overrides no joy. thanks for your help

Oh, are you trying to see the HRDI in the render? You'd need to use a crop of it in the environment texture, and then set the dome light invisible. I did a quick test, and I noticed I needed a multiplier of 50 to get the background image to not be too dark.
