  • Beer Bubbles Problem

I am almost new to Phoenix FD as well as not so comfortable with 3DS Max. I've been trying my hand on the plug-in since 20 odd days. Like most of the people, I've started learning by watching some tutorials and the beer simulation looked quite attractive so I gave it a try, Well a couple of tries. But so far no luck.

Most of the things are working except I am getting pretty large bubbles with weird colors.

I am really in doubt with the rendering process. Previously I tried rendering using GI then the render came out pretty good but it was costing me a huge render time. So I have disabled GI and tried rendering this time I am getting weird bubbles cutouts.
It looks like the Glass is cutting those bubbles in half.

One more thing as its clearly visible in the scene the flow of the beer has some kind of ring type shape I don't know what the reason behind that. Please tell me what went wrong there.

I happy to share my scene files as well as any details needed.
    Just need some direction.

    Hello,

For the cutout of the bubbles - make sure that your bubbles have enough reflection bounces - 6-8 should be a good starting point (note that this will make the render slower). Also check your Cutter Geometry and Glass Geometry settings for the Particle shader.

As for the the so called "rings" - just increase your Steps per frame option from the Dynamics rollout and the should disappear.

As you have said I have increased the reflection bounce to just 4 most of the cutout bubbles are gone. But my render time increased from a mere 8 min to 3.4 hours!! I need to increase the bounce more in order to make them totally gone. Cutter Geo is set to the glass, as well as the glass geo set to glass in the Phoenix Foam Object I think that's the particle shader you are talking about.
As for the rings I need to do a re sim for that right? And will increasing the Steps per frame going remove the details for the beer itself? Like the little details I am getting right now at the edge where the foam and beer meets?
One more thing to ask. while rendering the bubbles I have selected to render all of it do i need to change that to above water only?
I do need to increase the bubbles at the top not in the bottom.
Every thing is created using the real world scale. Still my bubbles are enormous at the size of 0.125 cm. How can i get even more small bubbles?

Yes for the steps per frame change to take effect you will need to simulate again. You can see what is the difference when you increase the steps here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...:StepsPerFrame

The bubble size can be changed from the Particle shader settings. You can also check the Foam settings as well here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/PHX3MAX/Liquid+Foam

If you choose to render only the particles above the water - there will be no bubbles inside the liquid so if that is the thing you like go for it.

OK. Almost all the things are done. Thanks for suggestion.
A few more things I wold like to know. Is it possible to only simulate the foam (Bubbles in this case) after I've done simulating the liquid? I mean like a secondary simulation based on the primary? And does changing the steps per frame has effects on the foam? Because before I was getting a lot of bubbles but now changing the steps per frame to 14 (From I am getting very less amount of bubbles. Also the the liquid mesh isn't completely smooth either. I know I can still increase it more but that will significantly decrease the amount of details I am getting in splashes and probably it will become more viscous type. Whats the way around?

            Hey,
Yes the steps per frame will change the behavior of the liquid particles and it's them that spawn the foam so the foam will change as well. After you have done your main liquid sim you can then run a Resimulation and adjust the Splashes,Mist and Foam. You can find more about it here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...d+Resimulation
Just make sure to have you base simulation exported with Velocity channel enabled.
As for the liquid mesh you can use the Mesh smoothing option - it's a render setting so you won't have to run you simulation again. You can find more about it here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...ing-Meshsmooth

Thank you so much for such a prompt response! Highly appreciated. I will fix that asap then I have few questions about rendering. Till then! Peace.
