  • GPU TDR Errors

    VRAY3.4

Is it normal to receive GPU driver crashes ie: TDR (Timeout Detection Recovery Errors) for larger high-res/complicated renders that cause Rhino to stop responding? In these instances, GPU acceleration is turned off, yet it still causes GPU driver crashes to occur.

    Thanks!

Set TdrLevel registry key to 0.
More information about that could be found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/win...-registry-keys

Next versions of V-Ray will set this automatically during the installation, but for now the only way to escape that issue is to set that key manually.

Minor clarification - this is already fixed in v3.60.01, available at https://download.chaosgroup.com/?platform=51
Please reinstall V-Ray using the latest build and let us know if everything is alright!

      Kind regards,
      Peter

I would say that setting the TdrLevel to 0 is really not the best thing to do as this is a really useful error fallback if something in the graphics driver goes wrong.
Leaving this off means a GPU error needs a hard reset to be fixed which is bad all around.

The much better way to deal with it is to just increase the TdrDelay to something like 20. This allows for much longer computations but if there is genuinely something wrong it has a chance to break out of it.

This feature is there for a reason, please don't disable it.

V-Ray does not disable it. New versoins just increase the default to 8 from 2.

I've manually set it to 8 from default 2.

Still get it every now and then.

It is better to let the installer set this for you. There are might be other stuff as well.
If it still happens - it might be some bug or other reason - it is best to get the scene to the support so they can check.
Also try lowering the rays per pixel to see if this helps.
