  • No Copy command in the Asset Editor

    Good afternoon
I am trying to carry out a simple act of exchanging material .
I moved material from the material list in the Asset Editor to the right side and wanted to do a Copy action on it to replace another material with it .
The problem is that I do not have a Copy command on the menu (when I press the right key) !!

Version 3.60.02 replaces the Copy & Paste commands with Use as Replacement & Replace.
    https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...CHUP/Materials

A material can be selected and used as a replacement. A second material can then be replaced with the first one automatically changing the scene shader assigned.
The Copy & Paste functionality has been removed due to its potential to cause discrepancies and is no longer needed thanks to the replacement functionality.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

I have been attempting to utilise the Use as Replacement & Replace function in the Asset Editor - The problem I have is that some of the Materials within the Materials Library replace those in the SketchUP model no problem, others simply will not! What's going on?

          Hello, Craig,

Are you able to reproduce this behavior consistently?
Does the issue occur only with specific materials? If so, could you please archive (Extensions > V-Ray > Pack Project) and share a simple project?

          Kind regards,
          Peter

In additional to the comments above, could you please first try replacing the file attached in the following directory:

            C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for SketchUp\extension\ruby\special_objects and replace
            Attached Files

              Hi Georgi.

I have replaced the file as you suggested and now Vray icons on Sketchup have been removed and a load of error messages come up on the screen each time I open Sketchup. Any suggestions as to how to get it back?

                Hi again Georgi

Ignore my last comment. I've realised I replaced the wrong file however the patch you provided has not made any difference as I am still unable to replace materials.

Please bring back copy/paste material functionality . the Replace Material functionality take very long time with high poly objects while the copy/paste ones is immediately .

The long calculation time would be due to reapplication of the material on a multitude of objects in the host app (SketchUp). There is no workaround for speeding it up.
Simply injecting plugin data from one material into another (the old Copy/Paste functionality) does not force such an update but, as previously mentioned, is more prone to producing material discrepancies which in some occasions might damage the whole scene. Therefore, it was decided to stick with the more robust solution (Replace/Use as Replacement) and minimize the risk of introducing bugs to user projects.

                      Kind regards,
                      Peter
