  • No way to stop render with Vray window closed

If I accidentally close the Vray window while rendering, my Rhino will be frozen while the render finishes, and I have no way to reopen the vray window to stop it. This means I have to either wait out the entire rendering or force close Rhino. Obviously there is an element of my own error here, but I am used to Vray 2, where closing the vfb/progress window would stop a rendering. It seems like there should at least be a way to bring the window back up. Am I missing something here?

You are right, I noticed this also. It reminds me when the batch mode switch was on in v2.

Have you tried the "show VFB" button on the toolbar?

No, Vray is freezing all Rhino functionality while it renders. The point being there's no way to click any buttons or type commands.

I've been playing around with this more, and it seems to only happen some of the time. When it's working properly, I have control of Rhino and I can bring the window back up normally, as well as work in the Rhino window while the render is running

          Hello,

We were not able to reproduce the issue in our office environment on Windows 10 using V-Ray 3.60.02 for Rhino 5 & 6.
Could you please provide some additional info:
          - Full version number of Rhino
          - Full version number of V-Ray for Rhino
          - Render mode - Interactive or Production?
          - Render engine - GPU (Hybrid) or CPU?
          - Is the same GPU used for display (Rhino Options > View > OpenGL) and rendering at the same time? If so, is it using its latest drivers?
          - Is the issue reproducible with Viewport rendering (Viewport mode - V-Ray Interactive)?
          - Does this occur only with specific projects?
          - Are there any other 3rd-party plugins enabled at the same time?
          - Have you previously used V-Ray 2.0 or any other older official or custom build?

Anything else that comes to mind would be appreciated! The behavior you have described sounds abnormal.

          Kind regards,
          Peter

I have the same issue. Its not always the rhino interface becomes unresponse but never really understood why it works when it does.

            Latest (last) ver 5.
            Latest Vray
            Both modes
            CPU - at least
            All projects
            No 3rd party
            No vray 2.0

If the issue persists, please try setting up the environment variable VRAY_NUM_THREADS with a value of one less than your total number of CPU threads. Let me know if this makes a difference!

              Kind regards,

Having the same issue. If I accidentally close the vray progress window while it is rendering, it does not automatically stop the render as is used to. It is then impossible to stop the render as the active render freezes all other rhino function (including save function). Meaning it is impossible to cancel the render until it finishes.

It seems the issue is related to overlapping windows/screens. If the asset editor is floating on a different screen than Rhino - you can actually interact. One weird thing is: I can can actually interact with asset editor/rhino while rendering if I remote desktop using only one monitor...

                    Hello everyone,

It appears the issue is reproducible when manually typing the Render command in Rhino (also explains the small number of reports). Our developers will be evaluating how to best approach it. In the meantime, stick to using only the V-Ray Toolbar or Asset Editor render buttons.
                    Will keep you updated.

Please let me know if you are able to reproduce this in any other way!

                    Kind regards,
                    Peter
