  • Change all texture gamma in scene to sRGB (or 0.4545)

    Hi

I have a scene with most textures set to custom gamma curve and gamma set to 1.0

I need to get a bunch of scenes like this into Max to work on it further. Is there a way to run a script or something in Rhino to set it all to sRGB without manually going into each material and finding each texture in each material?
Alternatively, is there a script for max that will modify the relevant bits in a vrmat text file?

    Kind Regards,
    Morne

    Hello, Morne,

I assume the scenes have been made in V-Ray 2.0 or with assets from that version. The only recommended workaround for this is to manually toggle the "Linear Workflow" checkbox in each of these legacy materials.
Alternatively, you can use a software of your choice capable of bulk changing parts of text in multiple files to adjust the .vrmat files' Gamma values and/or their Bitmapbuffers' color space (0 - linear, 1 - gamma corrected, 2 - sRGB).
Keep in mind this should not be an issue with materials from V-Ray 3 for Rhino.

Our team is working on implementing scripting access in the next major release of V-Ray for Rhino.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hi Peter
I'm not sure what version the client is using, but I think it could be version 2.0.
I'm saving out vrmat files using the 3.6 demo for Rhino so I can use it in Max.

Actually today I saw the way they set it up with cutom curve and gamma of 1,0 is "correct". If I load that vrmat inot max, then in renders correctly as I expect.
If in Rhino I change the gamma to display sRGB, then in Max that vrmat file renders too dark..
      Kind Regards,
      Morne

Alright. If they keep using V-Ray 2.0 for Rhino, there is no way to directly transfer materials into V-Ray 3 for 3ds max and achieve the same result.
The options are to either edit the legacy .vrmat (or .vismat) files as mentioned in my previous post, or to have the Rhino projects migrated to V-Ray 3 for Rhino and adjusted there.
I know this is not an ideal situation. It has been taken care of in the latest releases but not much could be done for older v2.0 versions.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

Can I migrate the Rhino VRay2 files to Rhino VRay 3.6 in Rhino myself using the demo? Is there anything I should do to migrate?
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

The trial version EULA states it can be used strictly for evaluation purposes only.

I assume this will leave you only the other option posted above:
