  • foam patterns and wider foam

Hi, I've been very busy to get a bit control over the foam. I particular the patterns and shape. I like to have the patterns more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRJYn6k-dgQ (0:0 So the patterns are more stick together. For the shape I like it more wider. I try to lower the splah treshold but with no effect. To give some information about my scenes, I mostly work in mm because of the yacht sizes. I setup the simulation like the standard yacht tutorial from Chaosgroup, with splashes and foam. I also try different speeds. Thanks.

    Hey,

Be sure to check the updated tutorial here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...p+in+the+Ocean

There are a few videos showing how the pattern settings affect the simulation.

Thanks, yes I saw that one. Nice and clear tutorial. But I don't get the pattern more sticky like the link I put in the last post. And I have lower the threshold as much as possible before the splashes start to generate everwhere. Even with this the foam is not getting wider. Has this something to do with the shape of the hull? And for the patterns is this maybe to do with a minimum grid size?

Oh yes, the shape and velocity of the hull is crucial to how the wake looks and behaves. Btw, we did a change for the pattern forces which makes them stick together better in the latest nightlies. Please grab one and check if it works better for you

Thanks! Only I was searching in the nightlies folders but don't see any new Phoenix FD version. Only 2.0. Is it possible to send a link wich folder I must looking for?

Ah, if you don't see 3.0, then you definitely must email Support with your user name - seems like you need permissions.

            Cheers!

Ok, thanks. I have send a message to the Support. Hope to get these permissions soon, because I needed it for a animation project.

I have installed the newest Nightly and I did a test with a hull. I don't see much differents with the previous version. What has change exactly? Thanks again.

                  Hey,

The foam patterns could not pack the foam tightly like in the video above (btw you can check what changes there are in the nightlies without having to install a build, by checking the nightly_changelog zip - there we put the new changes and the date they were done).

However, if this does not change your sim at all, would it be possible to show a shot or a video of it, plus the simulation settings? Maybe there is something else we need to look at.

                  Cheers!

Hi, attached a screenshot of my settings and the foam trial from the hull. Maybe you could see if there is something to be changed to get a more wider and clearer patterns. 1000frames 100meter movement. Thanks!

Oh, definitely try enabling Droplets Surfing - this should allow the liquid and splash particles to spread out by sliding over the liquid surface, instead of immediately stopping when they hit the liquid mass.

                      Hope this helps

I think this was the trick!! Now the foam is much more 'pushed away' and the patterns are more visible. It is still not as tight as the video above, but maybe with some more tweaking I get pretty close. Thanks a lot!

do you have a final render/animation with the latest adjustments?

I can show you a screenshot and a isolated render of the foam. I still have one problem. The foam is going under the water surface when it is out of the box. Sitll no idea why this is happening. You can see this on the left of the render image. Maybe someone knows a solution for this. Thanks.

looks really good! And this is a render based on the settings you posted earlier in your posting (above)?
