  • Where is the new beta?

    Hi guys

Browsing the forum I have seen that people are speaking of the new version of vray. I would so much like to try it - but were can I download it? In the downloadsection it says another version - and I have tried that one, but it has expired So, could anyone please post me a link to the new one?

Ive heard that it takes a wile for the new update to go into the demo/watermarked-30 day trial section for downloading.

But then again, the last 2 versions havent been in the download section.

to get the proper beta versions you have to buy vray and they are all in your vray account when you log in.

well, i dont think chaos is going to waste their time creating a demo version of every little point release for the beta... Im actually surprised they even created a demo from the beta version...

How would anyone get buyers if they didnt put out useable beta's?

Im glad to have what I have at the moment, though I wish my HARDWARE was more capable. Im sure when those dual-core processors come out from AMD, Ill be able to get a nice computer to do some real irradiance map processing.

Currently im on a 3.2 Pentium, with 1.5 gigs of ram.. but realy in this day and age with the need for realistic rendering and lots of detail, dual xeon's or opterons should be the standard for just working stations.

Those dual cores sound very sexy though, sexy in a techy geeky way I mean. 2 processor cores, 1 chip, and at least 2X the processing power. Though I hear some companies are going to charge for dual lisences for some of their software for some reason.

Till then I can just hope and wait for the next demo/beta of Vray. I would like to be able to get rid of these spots from my glass renders =/

Because they have a full production version and they supply a demo version. Anyone who has perchased vray is entitled to a free upgrade to 1.5 and any beta version in between. Releasing beta versions for registered users to test will only make 1.5 all the more stable and user friendly / efficient.

most companies wont buy software based on a glitchy demo.

With all due respect, I think that at this point the word "beta" is just decorative, ornamental. If chaos had released a propper 1.5 version, as promissed, we wouldn't be discussing this. If instead of doing that, they decided to release constantly updated versions of their software, it is fine for me. I think it is really great. But I just also believe that it is not completely fair to keep using the "beta" thing as an excuse for everything. Let's face it, what we call beta, is just a necessary consequence from the lack of 1.5. Why necessary? because otherwise, a lot of people wouldn't have risked with VRay and they would have gone with FR, Brazil or MR. Therefore, I think the most realistic aproach to this situation, is thinking each new version as the 1.5 version, and not as a kindly gifted beta from chaos. At least, that's my point of view.
