  • Loading saved settings in asset editor not working

    Hello,

I am using RhinoV6 and i have just downloaded the free trial of vray 3.6. I have been using vray 2.0 with rhinoV5 and i'm very impressed with vray 3.6 so far.

When I load render settings from vropt file in the asset editor and do a render the render doesn't render properly and it renders plain black as per attached jpeg.

Before loading the vropt file the render works properly and when i restore to default render settings it also renders properly.

Why dosn't it render properly when i load this settings file?

I cant upload the vropt file to this post because it says 'invalid file' when i try to upload attachment.

The exact same thing happens when i save in rhino. Then when i reopen the rhino file and open up vray and do a render it renders the same black colour.

Are you able to save when you are using a trial license for vray?

    thanks for your help

    Hello,

Is the .vropt file created in a previous version of V-Ray? Due to the extensive changes between major updates some .visopt/.vropt files no longer produce reliable results or may even break the V-Ray UI. As a workaround, you can use the render quality presets and then fine-tune the settings to your liking.

    Kind regards,

      Hi Peter,

Thanks for your reply however this is not the case.

After doing a lot of testing I finally determined the variable that was causing the problem.

The problem is when I select CPU + GPU Render Engine.

I can make changes to all other settings such as camera, environment, render output etc and when I load the saved rhino file or load the saved VROPT file it will render properly. HOWEVER if I change the render engine to CPU + GPU and I save and load this rhino file or VROPT file it does not render properly. It just renders plain black. In order to get it to render properly I have to go into the settings and turn off CPU + GPU then turn it back on it will render properly.

I’m guessing this is a bug because you should be able to load a saved file without having to turn the CPU + GPU off/on to get it to render properly?

        Thank you for your reply!

Could you please send an email at support@chaosgroup.com with info about:
        - your GPU (model and drivers version)
        - a screenshot of your render devices setup (click the button next to the GPU toggle to expose the list)
        - the full progress log of an attempted render which returns only black color (the Progress window button is located at the bottom-right corner of the VFB, activate it prior to rendering).

My colleagues from the Support team should be able determine the cause of your issue based on the requested information. I have already notified them about this forum post.

        Kind regards,
        Peter
