  • Vray material editor causes powerful workstation to go into the red (80-100%)

    Hello,

My workstation's CPU seems to be going into the red every time I make adjustments in the material editor. To the point that I have to wait for a minute before it recovers and I can continue working. A you can image, this is not workable in a professional environment.

    It's Vray plugin to Rhino.
The model I'm working with is very small: 15 MB
My workstation is quite powerful, should be able to handle even big files.

Can anyone assist with this problem?

    Here's the system information.:

      Hello,
By default the Asset Editor material preview window utilizes half the CPU threads, so even if you see CPU usage at 100% it can only max 50% of your CPU. Furthermore, it is set to low thread priority, meaning it will not inhibit any other ongoing processes.

I'm concerned that Rhino is not responding in the screenshot you've attached. Does it always slow down tremendously or even freeze while you work with V-Ray materials?
If it does, would it be alright to arrange a remote-viewing session using TeamViewer in order to investigate this further?
My colleagues are available Monday-Friday between 11:00-18:00 EEST (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/zones/eest). To arrange a suitable date for you, send an email at support@chaosgroup.com and include a link to this forum thread.

      Kind regards,

I have this exact problem, at the moment, when trying to apply a material from the V-Ray editor with right click- 'apply to selection' Rhino freezes and remains unresponsive.
Running all recent software versions on a decent spec system (ryzen 1800x, 32GB RAM, GTX1080) any suggestions?

        many thanks

A fix was included in v3.60.03. If by chance you are using an older build, be sure to upgrade to the latest one and see if that resolves the problem. If it does not - please send an email at support@chaosgroup.com to arrange further assistance. Include a short description of your issue plus full version number of Rhino as well as your display resolution.

          Kind regards,
          Peter
