Material Blur

  • Material Blur

    So the material blur's default is set at 1. It seems like it should be more like 0, and sharpness added in post? What's the though behind blurring a material? For my work, it's mainly wood-grain laminates without much (if any) bump to them.

    Are you talking about the bitmap blur? That's just the way it's been implemented in Max and been like that since version 1.
    Use the VRayHDRI bitmap loader instead.

    There's a thread here somewhere where Lele recently did a bunch of tests with differen't blur and max bitmap loader vs VRayHDRI bitmap loader

      Thanks. Yes, bitmap blur. I've been using it at the default of 1 forever, but someone recently told me to set it down to like .2 Sounds like it has more to do with antialiasing than anything. But since I don't do animation, it seems fine to me at 1 and resembles what I used to get with my camera back in the day. Just thought I would check.

      I'll look for Lele's post on that.
