  • Render the sun?

    Hi,
I was trying to render the sun in this image but for some reason, I get nothing. I even added a glow to the vray sun, still nothing. Any help is appreciated.

If I remember correctly, the sun isn't exactly where you think it is, even through the wireframe shows it there.

If you look in your top right viewport, if you draw lines covereing the FOV of the camera, then imagine the sun is millions of miles away, then you'll realise you'll never see the sun in your cam view. As Bobby pointed out, the sun is never where you see it in viewpoint. Its only made like that to help artists work with their scenes as it would not be practical to have the sun icon viewport representation, where it would be in real life. Imagine you zoom extents of your scene, you wont see anything as it would be too small.

So, to solve it, you need to lower your sun by a LOT, perhaps in viewport so its just slightly above the trees (and move it further away by about double the distance that it currently is)
Also, you're using the wrong lens effects. The one you're trying to use with all the glows. rays, stars, rings works great for scanline, but suck big time when used with VRay
The better solution is to use VRay's own Lens Effects. If you look at your rendered window, at the bottom is a row of icons. See the one in the middle about, looks like a blue star inside a blue square. Tick that and another window will come up

      Have Fun!
      Kind Regards,
      Morne

Looks like the vray sky is blocking changed vray sun position. Try recreate the vraysun with the sky, should help.

align the sun target to the camera position and you'll be able to position it in the viewport accurately.

It should also be visible in the viewports, if the sky is set as a background (keep the background image size small in the max settings if you want very quick updates!).

              Hi Guys ,
Thanks for the responses. Here's what I got using what you all suggested. I see the sun but it's not as defined as the example. I set turbidity as low as it will go 2.0. It looks like it would be a simple adjustment, but where that would be ,i'm not sure.

Your exposure is probably too high for the sun to be clearly seen. Tonemapping will help

                  Thanks Manuel,
I'm not familiar with toneMapping since I am new to Vray.. Can you explain the work flow for this? Thanks

Try pulling down highlight compression in the VfB corrections first. If that is not enough you probably have to do it in Photoshop.

I'll give that a shot and see what happens.
