  • Baking texture in Vray Next

Since the Vray Next updates, it is now support metalness workflow of shading.
However I don't see the bake element added the corresponding metalness elements.

I'm wondering if this will be support in the future or is there any way right now can somehow do the trick?

    Thank you.

A workaround for now could be adding an extraTexMap and piping your metalness texture/network into that.

      Thank you for your suggestion.

The ExtraTexMap can solve a single map for sure.
But in my cases, our materials are much complex, f.e. VRayBlendMtl

Yeah that wouldn't work. A really janky emergency workaround could be piping all metalness inputs into the diffuse channel instead and baking that.

One of the guys is working now to add support for additional render elements including metalness, but for a quick solution what Dmitry suggested is probably best.

          Best regards,

Is the metalness baking in yet? I don't see it in the list. I'm still usingVray 4.

I really need the RTT support for baking out the metalness, roughness etc. to WebGL and game engines.
Until now I'm shuffling maps around using maxscript and rendering out multiple times but it's a messy workflow so would love to be able to just get it all in one pass.

              Any news on this?

Ok, found it...only scripting to get the map to vrayextratex in "render to texture"

This is quite important please, we are using the latest Vray 5 release and there is still no option for metalness or roughness. Thanks

If you use VRayBlendMtl, you simply can't bake metalness/roughness.

A simple scripting can take metalness/roughness as extratex.
But, if you don't want that somehow, you can make Common map in 3dsMax 2022. It is sort of scripted baking plugin.
