  • 3d wood veneer effect

Hello Guys, Hope you all are fine in current situation across the globe.
I am working on a product render where client has provided me a physical sample of wood veneer that change as per the viewing angle. I have tried but nothing working so far.. Any idea how to achieve it in renderings? Eager to crack this up!

Link of a video grab of this wood sample here - https://youtu.be/0sjTVLsKaM4

Usa a wood shader with a proper anisotropy setup and add a mild coat layer on top of it.

The answer is somewhere in there. I've had to try to recreate that type of material many times and that's the closest solution match I've found. Its definitely not perfect and is scene dependent in my experience. Please post if you figure it out!

If you have good maps is relatively easy to achieve, if I'll find some spare time I'll post an example

Here is a link to something which may be useful https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/wood-...ection/75787/5

EDIT: and a simple scene showing it working. https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnaddft5f8...0WOOD.max?dl=0 You will need to relink the maps if you have them, or just choose an appropriate map set.
It doesn't work well with e.g. a planks floor map but rather with multitextures - then you get the nice light/dark when they are rotated, as in the parquet example in that page link above

I used to use Darktree (see here), it's likely now supplanted by other procedural generation tools (the Adobe ones come to mind, ofc.).
You're likely going to need some work setting up a procedural texture of decent complexity, but then variations will be easy to make (and there's a chance you may actually build a 3d wood and be able to see the rings as well.).

Thank you guys! I have managed to make a texture from the provided sample & render this product. As of now client is not looking for 360 rotation so no worries
